Engaging Multilingual Learners in Secondary ELA: Equity, Inclusion & Access Without Overwhelm
Secondary ELA teachers increasingly face the challenge of delivering grade‑level content while ensuring multilingual learners (MLs) can fully participate and succeed. This session provides practical, research‑based strategies that make texts and tasks accessible through comprehensible input, leverage students’ cultural and linguistic assets, and empower student voice—all without overloading educators. We’ll explore scaffolds, planning frameworks, technology tools, and family/community engagement methods designed to support MLs on the path to college readiness. Educators will be equipped with ready‑to‑use lesson models, planning aids, and action steps to transform their classrooms into inclusive literacy environments.
