The Science of Reading Beyond Foundational Skills: A Summary of the Book - Know Better, Do Better Comprehension

You know the latest research on teaching foundational reading skills, but what do you do after that? The ultimate goal of reading is comprehension. What does research say about what to do after a student has those skills? You can read Know Better, Do Better: Comprehension or you can come to this session to learn about the science and practical suggestions on how to support comprehension. We will summarize David and Meredith Liben’s book and have learning around background knowledge, vocabulary, an overview and deep dive on comprehension, and more. Participants will see short videos of the Libens, get copies of handouts from the books, and learn about several instructional practices that they can use to help their students be successful readers.
