AI for IT: How Tech Teams Use AI in Schools
AI isn't just for the classroom โ it's also transforming how IT support schools every day. From streamlining help desk tickets with AI-powered troubleshooting, to automating network monitoring, to generating parent communications or staff training materials, AI can lighten the IT workload while improving response times. At the same time, IT departments are uniquely positioned to lead schools through the safe, inclusive, and practical adoption of AI by setting clear policies, addressing community concerns, and supporting teacher PD.In this session, participants will explore real examples of how IT uses AI tools in daily operations and learn strategies to guide schools in building trust, equity, and sustainability around AI in education.Learning Outcomes By the end of this session, participants will be able to:Identify at least three ways IT specialists can use AI in daily operations (e.g., troubleshooting, automation, content creation, training).Apply strategies for evaluating AI tools for security, privacy, and compliance.Create a roadmap for safe and inclusive AI adoption, including forming tech councils and stakeholder engagement.Design bite-sized PD or training supports to help teachers and staff build confidence with AI.As the technical backbone of schools, IT personal are on the frontlines of both using AI in their work and guiding schools to adopt it responsibly. This session empowers IT professionals to not only improve their own workflows with AI but also serve as leaders of trust, safety, and innovation in the educational AI journey.
