And The Answer Is: AI Literacy! Concrete Answers To The AI Cheating Concerns

Wednesday 11 February 2026·2:00 pm

When many hear the words students using AI, their next thought is cheating. Come take a look at the issues behind secondary students using AI unethically, and walk away with strategies you can use tomorrow to address this in a positive and collaborative way. Help your staff move from frustration with students to conversation with students. Ideas that have students actively using AI will be for students in grades 6-12.The session has participant thoughts facilitated through Pear Deck. It begins with a whole group presentation and discussion of the underlying issues behind secondary students using AI unethically. For each issue provided, an accompanying solution will be discussed that is in line with the NCDPI AI Guidelines. Participants will then choose a particular issue and solution to explore individually. Ideas will include, but not be limited to: detecting AI writing without using unreliable AI detectors, adjusting assigned activities to be AI-resistant in a variety of ways, and adjusting activities to ethically incorporate student-facing AI, utilizing the NCDPI AI Zero to Infinity scale. Participants will receive a digital "one-pager" with all relevant links from the session, their own editable copy of the session slides to organize in their Google Drive, and freebies like stickers and candy.
