Gamifying How Students Explore Ancient Cultures

How can you immerse students in learning about ancient cultures through digital learning? In this session, participants will play with NCMA Explore, an award winning digital learning tool focused on ancient civilizations developed by the state art museum. Participants will take scavenger hunts in immersive, historical environments to discover printable 3D scans of 43 museum objects in AR (Augmented Reality) and play minigames related to Ancient Peru, Mexico, Egypt, Rome, and Greece. We will model interactive aspects of the digital learning experience with teachers between demonstrations of how to use Fab (Sketchfab), Zappar AR app, and the scavenger hunts in the historical environments created in Unity. All participants will receive teaching resources and learn about additional standards-based resources and brainstorm opportunities for collaboration with other subject areas and maker spaces.
