Integrating CYBER.ORG Resources to Support NCs Social Media Literacy Micro-Credentials (K-8)
This session highlights how Cyber.org’s cybersecurity learning resources complement North Carolina’s student-facing social media literacy microcredentials developed in response to House Bill 959. Together, these efforts support a cohesive approach to digital citizenship, online safety, and cyber awareness across grade levels. Participants will explore how Cyber.org’s standards-aligned resources reinforce key HB 959 concepts such as personal security, safe communication, recognizing harmful online behaviors, and reporting suspicious activity, while also supporting CIPA compliance through instruction on privacy, filtering, and appropriate online behavior. The session will include interactive and partially unplugged activities to demonstrate that effective digital citizenship and computer science instruction does not need to be dependent on increased screen time.
