Introduction to Networking with Wireshark and Nmap
Ever wondered what's really happening when your devices talk to each other on the network or when you navigate to a website? This session pulls back the curtain on computer networking fundamentals by diving right into the data. We'll introduce and use two of the most popular, real-world tools — the powerful network protocol analyzer Wireshark and the versatile network mapper NMAP — as a lens to explore essential networking concepts in a practical, hands-on way. We’ll use Wireshark to explore the anatomy of a packet and discuss key networking concepts, provide examples of the important protocols and services that allow your network to function, learn what’s going on behind the scenes and about the technologies that enable you to securely navigate and transmit sensitive data to sites on the Internet, and more. We’ll also review NMAP to help you quickly get a better understanding of the devices, services, and open ports on your network with a scan.
