Rethinking Screen Time in K–12 Schools

This session takes a thoughtful look at screen time in K–12 learning environments, moving beyond common misconceptions to examine what the research actually says about device use in schools. Participants will explore how factors such as purpose, design, and instructional strategy matter more than the number of minutes students spend on screens. Attendees will discuss best practices for meaningful and impactful device use, including strategies for balancing digital and non-digital learning, supporting student well-being, and ensuring screen time is intentional, developmentally appropriate, and instructionally sound.
