D3/4 SS Writing: Historical Narratives and Debates (persuasive/position papers)

Part of NCTCA 2026
Friday 6 February 2026·4:00 pm

Want to help your students become confident writers in Social Studies? Want to give them the tools to express their ideas clearly and persuasively across historical and contemporary topics? This session will focus on writing in Division 3 and 4 Social Studies, with an emphasis on historical narratives, debate preparation, and argument writing. Whether students are crafting a position paper, analyzing historical perspectives, or engaging in persuasive debates, they will learn how to structure ideas, use evidence effectively, and develop a strong voice. You’ll explore strategies and project ideas that build core writing skills through Social Studies content—like structured debates, persuasive position papers, and creative narrative writing from historical viewpoints. You’ll leave with ready-to-use resources to strengthen student writing, enhance critical thinking, and bring key Social Studies concepts to life.
