Frameworks - Scaffolding Understanding (K-6)
Part of NCTCA 2026
Friday 6 February 2026·4:00 pm
Too often, what we carry forward isn't the understandings, but the algorithms, the formulas and procedures that, if applied and followed correctly, give us sterile, correct answers. What if Mathematics Learning could be more than that? Using Models, Manipulatives, and Metaphors, we build frameworks to hold the ideas still while we learn to apply and adapt them to ever-more complex situations. What if those frameworks could grow with us? This session will explore some of those frameworks, from their humble, concrete beginnings to their more complex and abstract applications.
