The Power of Story: A Journey of Intergenerational Healing

It was during a drive to town in 2007, when Christy’s mother (in-law) Margaret Olemaun Pokiak-Fenton (Inuvialuk) shared her story of survival and triumph while attending an Arctic Residential School in the 1940s. That moment would drastically change the course of both of the women’s lives, as they went on to share Olemaun’s stories in four bestselling and award-winning books, the most famed being Fatty Legs. It started with a routine drive, but the path led them to travel internationally, joining the movement for reconciliation, with many unexpected happenings along the way. There may have been a tattoo incident.
