Policy for Principals - Understanding the BT Support Policy

This session will begin with an overview of the requirements of Beginning Teacher Support as found in NC State Board of Education Policy and NC Public School Law. Regional Education Facilitators from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction will highlight policy expectations, Beginning Teacher Support Program components (mentors, observations, evaluations, PDPs, PD, data collection), and state resources available to beginning teachers. Results of statewide monitoring will be shared and analyzed. Components of successful Beginning Teacher Support Programs will be examined with an opportunity for administrators to share and discuss specific strategies for creating a comprehensive system of support for beginning teachers from the system to the school level.
