“Saved by the Tech: Boosting Literacy for Multilingual & Small Groups”
🎶 “Back to the 90’s, where literacy meets technology!” In this interactive session, teachers will channel their inner 90’s energy—think neon colors, mixtapes, and Tamagotchis—while diving into the latest tech tools that can power up literacy support for today’s students. Just like a trusty Walkman could make any road trip better, these tools will give educators practical ways to amplify instruction for students who are learning English or working to strengthen essential reading skills.Participants will explore apps, platforms, and digital resources that connect to daily classroom instruction, small group work, and intervention. From collaborative platforms that feel like the group projects of our 90’s school days to engaging tools that bring reading to life like Saturday morning cartoons, educators will leave with strategies that are both nostalgic in spirit and innovative in practice. The session is designed to be hands-on and learner-centered—no boring lectures here, just like no one wanted a boring dial-up tone! Teachers will get to test out the tools, swap ideas with colleagues (like trading Pokémon cards), and see how technology can build confidence and achievement in literacy.By the end of the session, participants will walk away with a “90’s-inspired playlist” of ready-to-use tech tools and strategies that can be integrated immediately into instruction. Get ready to press play, level up your literacy game, and take students from Blockbuster browsing to Netflix-ready reading success!
