Differentiation and Joy in the Elementary Math Classroom
Are you looking for ways to spark joy and engagement in your elementary numeracy block while also meeting the diverse needs of your learners? This session will highlight research-based, practical, and easy-to-implement numeracy structures aligned with the new Alberta mathematics curriculum that will be able to be implemented as soon as the upcoming week. I will share how the intentional use of number talks, Guided Math Stations, rich math tasks, manipulatives, spiralized review, and triangulated assessment can create both differentiated pathways and joyful learning experiences. Drawing from my experience in Grade 2–6 classrooms, including multi-grade settings, I will offer strategies and examples that empower all students to thrive in math.
