Concussion Competence for Every Child: Elevating Health Literacy, Equity and School-Based Protocols in K-12 Sport & Physical Education

Sports-related concussions (SRC) remain a persistent K–12 concern amid evolving consensus statements, state policies, and growing attention to mental health, academic reintegration, and health equity. This interactive session equips coaches and physical educators with practical, standards-based tools to recognize SRC, communicate with families using plain-language, culturally responsive strategies, and operationalize phased return-to-learn and return-to-play within a biopsychosocial framework. Participants will audit their current policies, map roles within a multidisciplinary team, and develop an actionable plan aligned with SHAPE America’s mission to ensure every student -- regardless of context, identity, or access -- receives safe, timely, and equitable concussion care.
