The PD Exchange

Implementing Inclusive, Skills-Based Health Education for All Students

Thursday 19 March 2026·2:00 pm

Inclusive health education is intentional instructional design that ensures every student can access the skills needed for lifelong health. This session will provide practical strategies for integrating the SHAPE AMerica National Health Education Standards into a culturally responsive, skills-based framework that meets the diverse needs of students across ability, identity, and background. Participants will explore ways to adapt lessons to honor student voice, reflect lived experiences, and remove systemic barriers through differentiated instruction, accessible materials, Universal Design for Learning, and trauma-informed approaches. Emphasis will be on aligning instruction with equity-centered pedagogy, so students gain not only knowledge but also the confidence and competence to act. Participants will leave with adaptable lesson ideas and strategies for creating health education experiences where all students feel seen, supported, and empowered. Designed for new and experienced secondary teachers, this session blends evidence-based practice with hands-on applications to make skills-based health education truly inclusive.
