Introducing Mavball - an Emerging Scholastic Sport

A new sport known as Mavball is a great solution for large PE classes in urban schools with diverse student populations. It was created by Srecko Mavrek, the 2015 SHAPE America Eastern District High School Physical Education Teacher of the Year. His idea for Mavball was born while teaching a physical education class at KAPPA International High School in the Bronx. It's unique because it combines original Mavball skills with volleyball, tennis, and soccer skills. Scholastic Mavball is played with two teams of 6-8 players on a volleyball court or 9-12 players on a basketball court. In addition to developing effective motor and sport skills, it encourages effective communication, cooperation, teamwork and decision making to defeat opponents. During this session, participants will learn how to teach Mavball using lesson plans designed according to the SHAPE America National Physical Education Standards.
