Physical Literacy Isn’t a Gift on Your 5th Birthday
Physical literacy isn’t something kids magically gain when they turn five; it must be taught the moment they begin to move with purpose. This engaging session explores how a connected PreK–5 approach can support confident, competent, and motivated movers from the earliest stages of development. Drawing from curriculum design work by Michigan Fitness Foundation and the University of Nevada, Reno Extension, we’ll highlight how consistent, developmentally appropriate strategies build a strong foundation for lifelong physical activity. Attendees will explore key pedagogical principles, age-appropriate design strategies, and intentional progression across learning environments. Through active engagement and collaborative breakout discussions, participants will leave with practical ideas for aligning early childhood movement with elementary PE and ensuring every child’s physical literacy journey starts and grows with purpose.
