Special Olympics and Adapted Physical Education CAN Work Together to Benefit Students With Disabilities
Unified Sports and adapted physical education (APE) are both important components within physical education that aim to benefit students, particularly those with disabilities, noting they differ in their primary focus and structure. In this presentation, we will explore the similarities and differences between Unified Sports and adapted physical education, and how both can benefit all students (target populations, instructional delivery and mandates, and student benefits). We will also present our new Unified Physical Education Resources manual, designed specifically for Unified Physical Education in Utah and its alignment with Utah State Core Standards. We'll also address our partnership with the Utah Special Olympics to address the need for more students participating in extracurricular sports and activities as required by IDEA. Attend this presentation to learn how to be a powerful advocate for all students in your state!
