4D: Youth Voice in Action: Turning Student Insights into Policy and Practice
The problem isn't your data. It's the story adults tell about it. When we misinterpret what students are experiencing, we write the wrong policy, enforce it poorly, and wonder why culture doesn't shift. This session gives leaders practical tools to reframe adult assumptions and co-design policy with students, not just for them. Too often, adults adjust practices without youth input, limiting impact and reinforcing the very inequities they're trying to address. In this interactive workshop, participants will practice two core moves: surfacing the assumptions that quietly drive policy decisions, and co-designing implementation guidance that incorporates student perspectives from the start. Drawing on real scenarios around cellphone policy, attendance, and belonging, participants will leave with tools and a feedback cycle they can adapt in their own systems so that student voice becomes routine, not episodic. Note: This Summit session also invites attendees from the Deeper Learning Conference to participate. At Deeper Learning 2026 (DL26), a global community of educators, visionaries, and change-makers unites to reimagine what's possible in education. The Deeper Learning Conference features immersive and transformative learning experiences that inspire participants to design and lead with purpose, creativity, and joy. In 2026, we're bringing together the powerful Deeper Learning and Improvement communities through select crossover sessions, culminating in a joint closing keynote. You are invited to dive deeper and make new connections at Summit 2026. Check out our Summit and DL26 comparison to learn more.
