Successful activities for EAL classes
FreePresented by Critical Agendas
Whether you are at the start of your teaching career and are looking to build up a bank of classroom activities, or youâve been in the classroom for years and are looking for some fresh ideas, this workshop has something for everyone. Collected during Rowenaâs 30 years in the classroom, the activities presented in this workshop are based on 2 fundamental questions: âWhat do I want my students to do in English?â and âWhat do I want my students to know in/about English?â. With that as the foundation, the activities presented in this workshop will cover all 5 macro-skills as well as vocabulary and grammar development. Participants will explore:
Although the examples given in this workshop will mostly come from a Secondary context, the ideas presented are general in nature and can be applied in most Primary and Secondary classrooms. Time will be devoted to producing activities to use in class immediately.
Rowena Bata has been a Languages teacher for 25 years and she has worked at schools in Victoria as well as in France, Papua New Guinea and Malaysia. She has held various positions of leadership and has taught students of all ages, from Prep to adult. Rowena holds a Masterâs degree in Linguistics and she is a Microsoft Innovative Educator Trainer. She is interested in bridging the gap between second language acquisition theory and what happens in a classroom, and she has a particular focus on the role that technology can play in the language learning process. Rowena has a wealth of experience that she brings to her presentations and her workshops are always practical and full of ideas for teachers to take away and use in their class immediately.
