Neurodivergent Educators Affinity Group

The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) hosts the Neurodivergent Educators Affinity Group, a teacher-led community for world language educators who identify under the neurodivergent umbrella. Meeting virtually via Zoom throughout the year and in person at ACTFL's annual Convention, this group provides a dedicated space for neurodivergent language teachers to connect, share experiences, and support one another in navigating the unique challenges and strengths that neurodiversity brings to the language teaching profession. The affinity group centres conversations on neurodiversity in teaching practice, fostering a sense of belonging while promoting representation, inclusion, and professional growth. Participants explore how their neurodivergent perspectives inform their teaching, discuss strategies for managing the demands of the profession, and build a supportive professional network. ACTFL's commitment to hosting this group reflects a growing recognition that educator wellbeing and identity are integral to effective teaching, and that creating inclusive professional communities strengthens the entire field of language education.
