Fawn Nguyen Professional Development

Fawn Nguyen is a nationally recognised mathematics educator, currently serving as Director of STEM Initiatives at Amplify, with 30 years of middle school math teaching experience and three years as a K–8 math coach. Named the 2014 Ventura County Teacher of the Year and recipient of Raytheon's Math Teacher Hero award, Fawn brings a rare combination of deep classroom experience and infectious enthusiasm for mathematical thinking to her professional development work. Her PD focuses on making mathematics engaging, visual, and accessible, drawing on resources she has created including visualpatterns.org — a widely used collection of visual pattern problems — and her popular teaching blog on Substack. Fawn's approach emphasises student reasoning, problem-solving, and mathematical discourse, helping teachers move beyond procedural instruction to foster genuine mathematical thinking. She has served on NCTM's Professional Development Services Committee and has been a keynote speaker and workshop facilitator at mathematics conferences nationwide. As co-founder of the Math Teacher's Circle in Thousand Oaks, California, she is deeply committed to building professional learning communities where teachers experience the joy of mathematical exploration themselves.
