Marilyn Burns Professional Development

Presented by Marilyn Burns

Marilyn Burns is one of the most influential mathematics educators of the past half-century, and her professional development offerings — now delivered through Math Solutions (a division of HMH) — help K–8 teachers build conceptual understanding, foster rich student discourse, and drive meaningful learning outcomes. Over the course of almost sixty years, Marilyn has taught children, led professional development sessions, spoken at conferences, and authored a dozen children's books and more than twenty professional development publications. In 1984, she founded Math Solutions Professional Development, an organisation dedicated to improving K–8 math instruction. She also created Do The Math, a research-based intervention program developed with a team of master classroom teachers and published with Scholastic, targeting addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions. Math Solutions PD is data-driven, student-centred, and delivered by master educators who help teachers bring conceptual maths instruction to life in their classrooms.
