PowerMyLearning Professional Development

PowerMyLearning is a national education nonprofit that partners with school districts to strengthen PK–5 mathematics instruction through evidence-based approaches rooted in the learning sciences. Their professional development model is distinctive in its focus on revealing student mathematical thinking—helping teachers see and respond to the reasoning behind students' answers rather than simply assessing correctness. Built around the Foundations of Numeracy framework, which identifies 16 evidence-backed building blocks organised into four cornerstones (Content, Competencies, Ways of Thinking, and Motivators), PowerMyLearning's PD draws on insights from over 200 research studies across disciplines. Educators implement strategies identified by John Hattie's influential Visible Learning research, all with effect sizes above the .40 hinge point of usefulness. Independent research has demonstrated that PowerMyLearning's programs produce statistically significant improvements in student maths achievement, instructional practice, and teacher retention.
