Presented by Tricia Ebarvia (#DisruptTexts)
Tricia Ebarvia β author of 'Get Free: Antibias Literacy Instruction for Stronger Readers, Writers, and Thinkers' (Corwin, 2023), co-founder of #DisruptTexts and the Institute for Racial Equity in Literacy, and Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Greene Street Friends School β offers transformative professional development at the intersection of racial equity and strong literacy instruction. Since 2019, Tricia and Dr. Sonja Cherry-Paul have gathered over 800 educators from around the world for the Institute for Racial Equity in Literacy (IREL), a week-long professional development experience examining the critical intersections of race and social justice with reading and writing instruction. IREL offers two intensive tracks: 'Interrogating Internalized Racism in Ourselves and Our Practices' and 'Understanding Systemic Racism: Society, Schools, and Classrooms.' #DisruptTexts, the grassroots educator collective Tricia co-founded in 2018, advocates for more inclusive and equitable language arts curricula and pedagogies. With over 20 years of classroom experience and deep expertise in antibias literacy instruction, Tricia's work helps educators build the knowledge, skills, and courage to create classrooms where every student's identity and experience are honoured through the texts they read and the conversations they have.
