Summer Math Adventures – For Grade 2-3 Students

UCLA Center X's Summer Math Adventures for Grade 2-3 students is a hands-on mathematics enrichment program designed to help young learners develop deep, conceptual understanding of mathematical ideas during the summer months. Part of UCLA's Mathematics Project, which has a long track record of bringing university-level expertise in mathematics education to K-12 students and teachers, this program engages 2nd and 3rd graders in meaningful problem-solving, mathematical discussions, and hands-on exploration that goes far beyond worksheet-based practice. The program runs in short, intensive sessions at the UCLA campus, providing young students with an immersive mathematical experience that builds confidence, curiosity, and genuine understanding. While this is a student-facing program rather than a traditional teacher PD offering, it has significant professional development implications: teachers and parents who observe or engage with the program gain insight into what research-based, conceptual mathematics instruction looks like in practice.
