Self-Paced Workshop

WIDA Self-Paced Workshops provide flexible, on-demand professional development for educators working with multilingual learners and English language learners across K–12 settings. Developed by the WIDA Consortium at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, these workshops allow educators to complete high-quality professional learning when they want, where they want, and at their own pace — making them ideal for teachers with demanding schedules who need practical, immediately applicable strategies. Workshop topics cover a range of critical areas for supporting multilingual learners, including making language visible in the classroom using the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework (2020 Edition), integrating mathematics instruction with language development, engaging multilingual students in science through inquiry-based approaches, supporting reading comprehension across content areas, and working effectively with long-term English learners (LTELs). Each workshop is designed to be practical and actionable, helping educators apply what they learn directly to their classroom practice. WIDA is used by educators in 42 U.S. states and territories, as well as over 500 international schools, making it the most widely adopted framework for supporting English language learners in the United States. Their professional development is grounded in research on second language acquisition and academic language development, and the self-paced format ensures that educators can engage deeply with the content rather than rushing through it.
