Free

Presented by edWeb

Wednesday, April 15, 2026·8:00 PM

Presented by Susan Lambert, Ed.D., Chief Academic Officer of Literacy at Amplify and host of Science of Reading: The Podcast Learn more about earning a CE certificate and our accessibility features. Reading comprehension goes far beyond simply decoding words on a page. In this edWebinar, join Susan Lambert, Ed.D., Chief Academic Officer of Literacy at Amplify and host of Science of Reading: The Podcast, as she unpacks the intricate web of interconnected skills and knowledge that can enable deep comprehension of complex texts. Together, you’ll explore how reading comprehension is the byproduct of a constellation of competencies: the ability to read words, the knowledge of words, and the background knowledge of the topic of the text. Dr. Lambert will share research on why integrating the development of cognitive abilities—rather than teaching isolated skills—can improve comprehension for all students. This session offers an opportunity to examine comprehension as a process and an outcome rather than a skill. It also explores practical approaches you can adapt to support students in becoming skilled comprehenders who can navigate increasingly complex texts with confidence. This edWebinar will be of interest to teachers, librarians, school leaders, district leaders, and education technology leaders of preK through elementary grade levels. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation. Susan Lambert, Ed.D., is the Chief Academic Officer of Literacy at Amplify and host of Science of Reading: The Podcast.
