Five from Five presents their free Professional Learning Seminar Series on evidence-based reading instruction and leading change in literacy, starting 11 February 2026. This series of online seminars is available to all educators — either as scheduled webinars open to anyone, or as bookable presentations for whole-staff professional learning delivered via videoconference or in schools. Five from Five is an Australian community education initiative, now guided by The Academy for the Science of Instruction, that aims to improve literacy levels by ensuring all children receive effective, evidence-based reading instruction grounded in the five essential components: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The seminar series covers these foundations systematically, with sessions including 'The Science of Reading: Essential Knowledge for Teachers,' 'Oral Language and Vocabulary Instruction in Primary School,' 'Teaching Reading Comprehension in Primary School,' and a seminar on leading change in literacy. Launched in 2016 by Dr Jennifer Buckingham OAM, Five from Five has been a key voice in raising public awareness about the importance of explicit and systematic instruction in reading. The seminar series is repeated each term, making it accessible for educators at any point in the year.
