CANCELLED 7TH JANUARY- presenters unable to attend This professional development workshop introduces PlayTag, an innovative RFID-enabled educational platform that can be adapted to any curriculum subject - or cross-curricular learning. The Playtag project takes up the opportunity to develop children's scientific understanding, epistemic insight and in-person sociability through technology and embodied learning. In this co-creation workshop we invite participants to help us to identify the potential benefits and challenges for Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils. The PlayTag set-up consists of a child-friendly central unit, team stations, and RFID tags designed for small learners to manipulate safely. Unlike traditional primary science resources that often require expensive equipment or complex setup, PlayTag transforms any classroom into a socially interactive science laboratory where young learners physically engage with scientific phenomena through collaborative problem-solving. The system enables teachers to create customised learning experiences where children scan RFID tags to interact with digital content displayed on the central unit. Teams work collaboratively to solve challenges by selecting and scanning appropriate tags, with the system providing immediate feedback and tracking progress. The flexible design allows teachers to configure activities for any curriculum area, making abstract concepts tangible through physical manipulation whilst promoting collaborative investigation and scientific thinking. The workshop focuses on exploring how this adaptable technology can be applied to primary science education, with participants designing and testing their own curriculum-aligned activities using the PlayTag platform.
