Career-related learning in primary science: broadening horizons
This session will consider basic research supporting provision of career-related learning and present attitudes demonstrated by primary pupils in feedback from school visits to the Wellcome Genome Campus. Explore ways to enhance bioscience career exploration through making career skills and topic-based activities accessible. Trial and take away strategies to develop skills, promote scientific careers and support hands-on topic-based learning for primary pupils. Attendees will: •hear about how we structure career-related learning on and off campus and pupil attitudes to science, science knowledge and career aspirations (15 min) •build a bank of activities to develop scientific skills, support hands-on topic-based learning and give career insights (25 minutes) •discuss how some of these career-related learning activities could be integrated into their teaching / curriculum (10 min) •feedback reflections on career-related learning activities (5 min)
