Enhancing the primary science and STEAM curriculum through the use of ICT

Thursday 8 January 2026·1:35 pm

This session will dive into my school's exciting journey of reimagining Science and STEAM across the Primary curriculum — with digital innovation at its heart. I’ll take you behind the scenes of our transformation: where we started, where we are now, and where we’re heading next. You'll discover how we have embedded technology meaningfully to create richer, deeper science experiences that truly engage young learners. From building augmented reality digestive systems with JigSpace, to powering experiments with Makey Makeys, and crafting Keynote workflows and digital portfolios — our approach shows how technology can move from a bolt-on to a powerful, integrated tool for learning. Along the way, we’ll highlight the practical steps we took to bring staff and students on the journey, sharing tips you can take straight back to your own setting. Expect real examples, real challenges, and real successes — plus a forward-looking glimpse into how we’re shaping the future of Primary Science at my school. My interest in bringing this into the conference cycle is to showcase how ICT softwares can really enhance and adapt outcomes for our young learners, pointing out opportunities for software that may already be sat within a certain classroom.
