Thursday 8 January 2026·4:10 pm

If you are new to teaching KS3/4 physics, you are not alone! Classroom teachers have so much to concentrate on and teaching out of field can add an extra layer of complexity and demand to our work. In order to develop competence and confidence in any subject it is important to consider the key foundations and core content and take time to develop the important skills that form part of the bigger picture.  We have developed a list of five core considerations that underpin good physics teaching. These can help you to focus your attention on aspects of physics that can support students to deepen their understanding across multiple topics. In this session we will explore each of these and share practical examples that are relevant to everyday classroom practice across a variety of physics curriculum topics for you to use back at school. The considerations are: Maths and physics Multiple representations Seeing the unseen Language of physics Size and scale
