Space for inspiration in the primary curriculum

The aim of this session is to use Space as a hook for children’s learning. My interest in this area has developed through my varied career working in the education sector, as a teacher, a teacher developer and an outreach and public engagement specialist. Space is a topic that engages children and is often claimed to inspire ongoing interest in STEM subjects at school. The Space Industry in the UK is growing, increasing the diverse opportunities for our young people in this sector, not just for the few that want to be an astronaut, but includes communicators, financial advisors, lawyers, business managers, HR professionals…..the opportunities are varied. This session will look at the opportunities, not just in year 1 (seasonal changes) and year 5 (Earth and Space), and not just in Science, but across the primary curriculum, to use Space as an inspirational cross-curricular theme to develop understanding and essential skills.. The participants will come away from this session with ideas and activities they can use to embed space as an inspiration to learning within their classroom across the curriculum.
