Use of AI in curriculum implementation
Since the last curriculum review in 2014, education has seen major shifts, but few as rapid and provocative as the arrival of generative AI. What might this mean for how we design, deliver and adapt the science curriculum? In this interactive workshop, Dr Andy Chandler-Grevatt will introduce the opportunities and limitations of using AI in curriculum implementation. Drawing on his experience with Oxford Smart Activate and on current research and debate, Andy will guide participants through the emerging role of AI in science education at Key Stage 3 and beyond. Together we will explore where AI can add value to curriculum planning, resource development and assessment, and where its limitations raise important questions about accuracy, ethics and equity. Practical examples will be shared to illustrate how generative AI might support curriculum development. Participants will engage in discussion, try out scenarios and reflect on the role AI could play in their own schools. Whether you are enthusiastic, cautious or simply curious, this session offers an open space to consider what AI means for the future of the curriculum. By the end of the workshop you will have a clearer understanding of: • Current opportunities and risks of AI in curriculum design • How AI might shape science education in the years ahead • Practical ideas and critical questions to take back to your department
