Planning for Justice in Mathematics: Designing Lessons Where Every Student’s Thinking Matters

Monday 23 March 2026·7:00 pm

How can we plan math lessons that honor every student’s thinking? This session explores planning for student-centered mathematics through a social justice lens. Participants will examine three focal practices—valuing and addressing misconceptions, supporting students in communicating about mathematics, and using student thinking to advance learning. The session introduces the Math SHIFT Framework, a research-based tool developed through dissertation work to help teachers and leaders plan, reflect, and sustain equitable practices, featuring insights from teachers and a coach who have applied it successfully.
