What’s Going On? Reading the Mathematical Board Through Students’ Eyes

Teachers routinely capture students’ evolving ideas on the board, yet from students’ eyes, the board can clarify or confuse them. This workshop re-examines the board as a shared space for representing, organizing, and connecting ideas. Participants will experience a didactic mini lesson from the students’ perspective to surface challenges, then co-design board sketches that support students’ reasoning that makes the class’s evolving thinking visible. Together, we will develop practical strategies that help students see, revisit, and build on their ideas.
