Simulations & Experiences: Making Learning Relevant

Participants in this session will examine and discuss a simulation to help education students empathize with and understand facets of multilingual learners' experiences. The simulation has lead to productive debriefing discussions, in which students often discover & see the benefits of teaching practices that build on their experiences, and empathize with their multilingual learners more realistically. In this session, we will also discuss a longer, more involved simulation now in planning stages as an example of how participants can identify and plan a simulation with students in their own discipline.
