Art Connections with Indigenous Representation

Part of GETCA 2026
Thursday 26 February 2026·8:00 pm

Hello! I would love to share with you the many small, everyday things I do in my high school art room that practices normalization of Indigenous artists in the classroom, and our lives. I am trying to use their work, ways, and words as a role model for myself and my students. As a white settler person who has Metis heritage on my fathers side, I am trying my best to have constant meaningful “celebration and appreciation not appropriation” practices. Reconciliation is an ongoing practice and act that I am working through as a professional, and I look forward to sharing with you how I navigate this process. This session will likely be helpful for those teaching visual art in grades 7-12.
