Piecing Time Together: Mosaics & Mapping History

Part of GETCA 2026
Thursday 26 February 2026·9:20 pm

Course participants will create a mosaic tile that can be made of a few different materials. This activity can give your students the opportunity to represent a variety of different units of study within the Social Studies Curriculum in a fun and creative way. From the fur trade and our natural resources to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, these tiles will allow your students to truly visualize the beauty of the Canadian mosaic when all of the pieces come together to create one artwork together! Because this project involves a different entry point into the subject matter, this is a project that can even build connections to other course work. Participants may tailor their own tiles accordingly, and focus on their units of study as well as the materials they choose based on their individual classroom circumstances. A variety of multi-media sculptural materials will be used, including collage and clay
