Strategic Mentorship: Enhancing the Capacity of Educators to Foster Professional Growth
Professional development is often thought of in relation to skills and knowledge that will support the learning of students in the classroom; however, teachers also play a critical role in supporting future generations of educators by mentoring pre-service and novice teachers. Despite this fact, limited support is often provided on how to be an effective mentor. This presentation will explore the literature on mentoring professionals and outline key aspects of effective mentoring. It will also introduce mentoring dimensions that can be used to support the reflective process a mentor undertakes when supporting colleagues. The session would be beneficial for administrators and teachers involved in teacher education.
