The School Counselling Profession: Examining ways to support the identity of Canadian School Counsellors
School counsellors play a crucial role in promoting student growth, mental health, and well-being, while upholding professional competence and ethical standards. In Canada, school counsellors face challenges in establishing a strong professional identity. At a national level, the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) School Counsellors Chapter has been exploring ways to support this identity through leadership, collaboration, and advocacy. This session will provide school counsellors with a platform to discuss critical issues of identity. Time will be spent in interactive discussion including how school counsellors in Alberta see themselves, how the see their work, and what they need (and want) to succeed in a challenging and unique context.
