Unlocking the Mysteries to Music Literacy
Part of GETCA 2026
Thursday 26 February 2026·4:00 pm
Many non-specialist elementary music teachers find themselves in a difficult position when they are expected to instruct students in music literacy although unable to read music themselves. This session will walk teachers through the basic concepts of rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and expression from a Kodaly (folk song based) pedagogical perspective. Teachers will walk out with a better understanding of basic music literacy skills, such as reading rhythm notation and singing solfege notes, as well as some activity ideas to use in the classroom.
