What's the Big Deal: It's Only Pot!
Cannabis use among youth is often dismissed as harmless or “not as bad” as other substances—but emerging research tells a different story. This session will provide health and physical education teachers with up-to-date information on adolescent cannabis use, its effects on brain development, academic performance, physical health, and mental well-being. Participants will explore common myths and misconceptions students may hold, learn practical strategies for addressing them in the classroom, and discover how to integrate evidence-based prevention approaches into health and PE curriculum. The session will also highlight connections to the Michigan Model for Health and other resources to support effective instruction. Attendees will leave with ready-to-use ideas, discussion prompts, and activities that engage students in critical thinking about cannabis use and its real impact
