Classical Music is Not European: Rethinking Music Education

Many teachers associate music education through a European context. However, did you know that Western European music had it's origins outside of Europe? In this presentation, we will see how "classical" music comes from Mesopotamia, Africa, India, and China. We will discuss how this is important in ensembles and classes. We will examine how to present a balanced global view of music education that gives every student pride in their own cultural contributions to music.
