Exploring Musical Cultures of South Asia with Mindfulness

This session will present mindful and holistic approaches to learning and understanding musical cultures of South Asia. Songs, dances, and singing games of three South Asian countries (India, Sri Lanka, Nepal) will be presented using the World Music Pedagogy framework. These lessons will enable students to encounter participatory music making through song, dance/movement, and instrumental play that guides students through authentic South Asian music learning experiences encouraging musical creativity and intercultural awareness.
