Including Nonverbal & Non-speaking Students: Self-Contained to Fully Inclusive Classrooms

This session will explore common reasons and presentations of nonverbal or non-speaking students and provide strategies to engage students with varied communication abilities in a general music classroom using educational scenarios. This includes demonstrating and describing ways to modify educational activities to successfully engage these students in inclusive classrooms and offering approaches and musical experiences for learning basic musical skills and knowledge in ways that are approachable and achievable in self-contained and/or reverse-inclusion settings.
