D-2: Providing ECFE Programming in Rural Communities - Panel & Discussion

Friday 24 April 2026·2:45 pm

ECFE programs play a crucial role in supporting families, schools and communities in rural areas, yet they often face unique challenges that impact access, staffing, and sustainability. This session will explore the strengths and challenges rural ECFE programs face, with time for participants to share their experiences and strategies that districts are using to reach families and maintain programming in a post-pandemic era. The session will include a panel of ECFE staff and current University of MN students from rural communities who will share their experiences and approaches to delivering programming to their local communities. In addition, a representative from the Department of Children, Youth and Families will share resources and strategies for how ECFE parent educators can build relationships with their local schools. Join us to learn how rural ECFE programs are meeting families where they are and building strong early learning systems in their communities!
