Teaching Writing Right Now

Whether it is the logistics of responding to 125 or 150 papers for every piece of writing assigned or the challenge of getting students interested in learning about grammar or essays, teaching writing has never been easy. This difficulty has only grown in recent years due to the widespread adoption of Generative AI and ballooning class sizes here in Michigan. This session, led by author and Michigan classroom teacher Matthew Johnson, will look at best practices for teaching writing in an era where a machine can write an essay in ten seconds and our students often outnumber our desks. Particular focus will be given to time-saving strategies and providing practical, ready-for-the-classroom materials.
